Beach Cleanup

Join with other enthusiastic volunteers to clean one of the Windward beaches on the second Saturday of every month. You will get a free trip to Ben Weston, Cottonwood Beach, Little Harbor or Shark Harbor for a morning of sun and sand. The van leaves at from Conservancy House at 125 Clarissa Avenue. Call Volunteer Coordinator Lesly Lieberman at (310) 510-2595 ext. 112 to make reservations.

Avalon 50-mile Benefit Run

One of the country’s most challenging and scenic 50-milers. No cars, no smog, just great terrain, incredible views, fascinating historical sites, a well-organized race, nice people, great food . . . and even an occasional buffalo sighting. ALL proceeds from entry fees and sponsored mileage go to charity from this fundraiser for the Avalon Lion’s Club. Recipients include: Avalon Hospital, Avalon High School scholarships, Catalina Island Conservancy and the Bill Putnam Health Care Fund.

Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup

Calling all divers! Once a year, Avalon Harbor is closed to boats and open for divers to pick up trash at the bottom of the bay! The goal: clean up tons of manmade debris that settles on the ocean floor. Awards are given to the oddest, oldest and most valuable discoveries. The proceeds of the Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup benefit the USC Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber and the Catalina Conservancy’s Robert R. Given Fund.

Marineros Annual BZ Jones Cross Catalina Hike

Catalina’s wild side is at its best in the spring with tender green grass shoots covering the hills, flowers of all colors starting to bloom and the daytime temperature quite mild. This organized event accesses different trails in different configurations each year. Last year, it was an 11-mile hike from Ben Weston beach to White’s Landing with a prepared lunch at Black Jack. Proceeds from the event fund the Catalina Island Conservancy work and programs.

Catalina Island Conservancy MARATHON Saturday, March 15, 2014 The Catalina Island Conservancy Marathon was ranked No. 6 on weather.com’s “World’s 15 Toughest Marathons” list last year. The route winds its way from Two Harbors over to Avalon by way of dirt roads, along ridges and down canyons. It offers the chance to run wild in Catalina’s wildlands. Proceeds from the event fund the Catalina Island Conservancy work and programs.

The Catalina Casino in Avalon was the place to go for a Saturday night of dancing in the 1930s. And once a year, during the Catalina Island Conservancy black-tie Ball, it is once again the place to be. Complete with cocktail hour, silent auction, fine dining and dancing to a live band, it’s a spectacular night that also makes a difference! Proceeds from the event fund the Catalina Island Conservancy work and programs.

Nationally acclaimed plein air artist, John Budicin, will be featured at our first Catalina: The Wild Side Salon. The afternoon event will feature a selection of John’s paintings available for purchase, as well as a discussion period with the artist. A passion for Catalina Island and plein air fine art come together to create an extraordinary afternoon. The show features nine nationally acclaimed plein air artists, who display their interpretations of Catalina’s rugged wildlands as well as Avalon and Two Harbors. Proceeds from the sale of these unique paintings support the growth of a permanent collection of plein air artwork that documents the Island’s “wild side” and the Catalina Island Conservancy restoration efforts.
