This is a full time, Monday-Friday, 8 am-5 pm, non-exempt position that reports to the Finance & Administration Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Maintains accurate company-wide financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts.
- Ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), SMD’s policies, procedures, and contracts.
- Prepares journal entries, analyses, and account reconciliations with monthly close processes; includes all ledger accounts.
- Maintains all subsidiary schedules/supporting documentation of balance sheet accounts including fixed assets, prepaid expenses, CRTs, etc.
- Allocates & carefully tracks restricted funds.
- Reviews AP & AR postings.
- Prepares monthly internal financial reports, prepares revenue projections and forecasting expenses/expenditures and investment reports.
- Contributes to the development and review of annual operating budgets and performance projections.
- Prepares quarterly sales tax payments and annual multi states Charitable Registration renewals.
- Assists with:
- preparation for annual independent audit and resolving audit findings, account discrepancies and issues of non-compliance.
- budget preparation, monitoring & reporting maintaining accounting & organizational files
- donation processing
- a variety of collaborative & individual projects necessary to meet the overall organization goals and objectives
- Attends & takes minutes to both the Finance Committee meetings and Audit Committee meetings.
- Perform other accounting duties and backup assistance with Payroll, A/P & A/R when needed.
- Administrative support to the Finance & Administration Director.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Occasionally attends SMD after hour & weekend special events and programs to provide administrative staff support.
- Serving as a part of the organization’s donor/volunteer community relations team.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:
- 5+ years bookkeeper experience or BA/BS in Accounting (or equivalent) and substantial understanding of A/P, A/R, G/L & GAAP standards.
- Previous work experience in nonprofit accounting and financial management strongly preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills are necessary
- Advanced use of Excel and Microsoft Office programs required
- Advanced use of a robust accounting database platform. Knowledge of MIP accounting platform would be ideal.
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and multi-task
- Good problem-solving and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality

- Ability to work in a fast-paced, creative, and deadline-oriented environment

Physical Demands
The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Employee must be able to run errands and provide occasional physical set-up and breakdown of meetings/events, inside and outside in varying weather circumstances. Employee must also be able to hike, occasionally in steep and/or rugged terrain and in inclement weather.
Salary Range $55,000 – $65,000
