As of July 21, 2025: The bill is now in the Senate Appropriations Committee. It is on what is called the “Suspense File.” We are working with TNC, the Author’s office and other staff in the Legislature on moving the bill forward to the whole Senate when the Appropriations Committee meets after the legislative recess. Thank you for all your support and input to get us this far and we will keep you posted on next steps.
As of June 27, 2025: AB900 passed through the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee as amended. The amended bill text is available online. Next, the bill will be heard by the California Senate Appropriations Committee. Thank you to all who were able to sign on to our letters supporting this important legislation about stewardship funding.
As of May 29, 2025: AB900 passed through the Appropriations Committee as amended. The amended bill text is available online. The bill will be heard by the California State Assembly next before going to the State Senate.
As of April 22, 2025: CCLT is excited to co-sponsor AB 900 (Papan) with The Nature Conservancy. AB 900 requires CNRA to develop strategies to reduce barriers and increase support for science-based management and stewardship of conserved 30×30 lands. Specifically, the legislation would:
- Require an update to the Pathways to 30×30 Report, which includes a plan to advance stewardship of California’s conserved lands that will evaluate case studies, best practices, innovative practices, workforce training needs, innovative ways to reduce barriers, and increase federal, state, and local support for management and stewardship.
- Extend the use of biodiversity and nature-based solutions funds from Proposition 4 to also be used for the management and stewardship of those acquired properties. This is in line with one of the priority actions highlighted in the Pathways to 30×30 Report: to build restoration and stewardship funding into acquisitions grants where possible.
