Sacramento Valley Conservancy Secures $2.7 Million for 265-Acre Project

The Tudesko Ranch Preserve is the latest working lands project of the Sacramento Valley Conservancy (SVC), which aims to protect 885 acres of blue oak woodland, savannah, and riparian habitat on the eastern edge of Sacramento County’s urban area. The preserve includes sections of Deer and Carson Creeks, along with extensive associated riparian habitat, in an area threatened by development, wildfire, and extreme water conditions.

SVC secured $2.45 million for a 265-acre section of the Tudesko Ranch conservation easement through the California Strategic Growth Council’s Sustainable Agricultural Lands Conservation (SALC) program, in collaboration with the Department of Conservation. SALC is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Invest (also known as Cap-and-Trade) dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment, particularly in disadvantaged communities. SVC also secured a $265,000 match through the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program – Agricultural Land Easement (ACEP-ALE), managed by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
